Media Notes: Paul Pogba Becomes First EPL Player With Own Twitter Emoji

ManU midfielder Paul Pogba has "become the first ever Premier League star to have his own emoji on Twitter." All tweets containing the hashtag #Pogba on the social media site will display an animated image of the Frenchman's face. The limited-edition emoji was released ahead of ManU’s clash with Liverpool, and will remain until after the club faces Leicester City on Feb. 5 (MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS, 1/14).


Bulgarian telecom MTel has "entered the country’s sports TV market with the launch of three HD channels." On air for 24 hours daily, Mtel Sport 1, Mtel Sport 2 and EDGESport "will offer over 20 different sports, covering over 250 tournaments and competitions annually, with 8,000 of their combined 18,000 hours output each year reserved for live broadcasts." Content will be offered on an "exclusive basis in Bulgarian and include such premium events as UFC" and NASCAR Sprint Cup (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 1/13).

The French Pro A basketball league live streamed the game between Pau-Orthez and CSP Limoges on Sunday on Facebook Live. SFR Sport 2 also showed the match on TV, which was the 100th meeting between the clubs. The SFR Sport Facebook page hosted the stream, the first of its kind for Pro A basketball (Pro A).

The opening match of the Men’s Handball World Championship between France and Brazil drew an average audience of 609,000 viewers on beIN Sports. The game, which France won 31-16, drew a peak audience of 727,000 (L’ÉQUIPE, 1/12).
