DEL Club Iserlohn Roosters Terminates Arena Contract To Demand Second Ice Surface

German Hockey League (DEL) club Iserlohn Roosters "has terminated its lease agreement for its home venue," according to Gabriel Wagner of SPONSORs. The team canceled its contract for the city-owned Eissporthalle Iserlohn, which was set to expire on April 30. The Roosters have to find a new venue by mid-May in order to receive a DEL license for the upcoming season. Iserlohn Managing Dir Wolfgang Brück: "At the end it always worked out. I expect that hockey continues to be played here." The idea behind the early contract termination is to "force the city to build a second ice surface." The German Hockey Federation (DEB) "requires clubs to have two ice surfaces, with the second one mainly used for youth development." The Roosters "have had to pay an annual penalty fee due to the missing second ice surface." Club and city officials "are expected to start discussions about the arena's future." The club "currently has no alternative venue" (SPONSORs, 1/5).
