Scottish Premiership Match Between Rangers, Celtic Draws 565,000 On Sky Sports

The Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Celtic was U.K. digital TV’s third-most watched program on New Year's Eve -- "despite it being shown on the subscription-based Sky Sports," according to Darren Cooney of the Scotland DAILY RECORD. Viewers "were treated to a classic, with Celtic running out 2-1 winners at a raucous Ibrox." The game delivered a "huge audience" to the satellite channel, drawing in 565,000 viewers from when the coverage began at 11:30am before closing "not long after the match had ended." It was the most watched match on satellite since '12. Only two programs on digital TV had better numbers. Liverpool’s EPL clash with Man City topped the table with 1.13 million viewers, while Midsomer Murders came second with 647,000 (DAILY RECORD, 1/3).

BBL STAYS HOT: MUMBRELLA's Abigail Dawson reported the Big Bash League was the most watched non-news program for the night and the most watched program across "key advertising demographics" (16-39, 18-49 and 25-54), according to OzTam’s overnight ratings. It averaged 734,000 viewers across the five capital cities, helping Ten to average a share of 14.8% (MUMBRELLA, 1/3).
