Football Notes: Brazilian Federation Pursuing $100M From FIFA For Hosting 2014 World Cup

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) wants to "rekindle" its relationship with FIFA because the governing body still owes the CBF $100M from the 2014 World Cup legacy fund, but the presence of CBF President Marco Polo Del Nero "is proving to be an obstacle." The CBF is entitled to $100M from the World Cup’s legacy fund, but FIFA has "repeatedly refused to free the money," maintaining that it will not do so "as long as Del Nero is the president of the CBF." Del Nero is under investigation from the FBI for "alleged conspiracy, money laundering and electronic fraud related to CBF marketing contracts about the Brazilian Cup, the Copa America and the Copa Libertadores." FIFA’s ethics committee has been "investigating the Brazilian for corruption" since late '15 (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 1/3).

The Kelantan government "will take over the management of the state football team next season." The Kelantan FA exec committee endorsed the proposal from the state government in Kota Baru. Kelantan was "contemplating to withdraw from next season's Super League following failure to raise sponsors." The state government agreed to provide funds with "the condition that they manage next season's squad" (NEW STRAITS TIMES, 1/3).

Israel Culture & Sport Minister Miri Regev announced on Sunday night that her ministry "will fund the security detail" for Israeli side Hapoel Be'er Sheva's upcoming game in Turkey against Besiktas. Regev said in a statement, "As recommended by the security agencies, security at a significant financial cost is required to secure the state champion Hapoel Be'er Sheva during its trip to Turkey. I've instructed my ministry to pay for the extra security costs, given the recent sensitive security situation, and these costs will not be imposed on the team" (ALBAWABA, 1/2).

Kenyan Premier League management
said that the U20 Championship "will be transformed to a reserve league in the next two years" as it steps up efforts to "ensure the youth program remains sustainable." KPL CEO Jack Oguda said that talks "are already in place with potential sponsors to work out logistics that would see the tournament run concurrently with the top tier league" (ALL AFRICA, 1/1).

The Ivory Coast government has allocated a budget of around €6M ($6.25M) for the national team’s African Cup of Nations campaign, official sources said. The amount will be used for the "preparation and participation" of the Elephants in the competition taking place from Jan. 14-Feb. 5 in Gabon (AFRICA NEWS, 1/2).

Liga MX side Chiapas Owner Carlos Hugo López Chargoy "confirmed that at the moment the club is up to date on payments at all levels and has the solvency sufficient to avoid any delays during the Clausura 2017." He said, "Before entering the draft the first commitment was paid and today the second commitment is being paid to the players, and they are now calm" (NOTIMEX, 1/2).
