Media Notes: Basketball Bundesliga Intensifying Facebook Live Activity

The Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) is intensifying its Facebook Live activities. The league will show live game scenes on the social media platform during each match week. The BBL will also, together with broadcast rights holder Deutsche Telekom, stream the pregame show and the first several minutes of the week's top game. The move could result in the streaming of full-length BBL games (BBL).

BeIN Sports announced recent ratings following El Clásico between Barcelona and Real Madrid on Dec. 3. The match was the top program of the day on Spanish-language cable, driving beIN Sports en Español to be the No. 1 Spanish-language cable network. Due to successful World Cup qualifier programming, beIN Sports and beIN Sports en Español grew 27% and 14%, respectively, in November, both posting their best month since April. The broadcast of El Clásico averaged 1.45 million total viewers across both networks, reaching 927,000 total viewers on beIN Sports en Español and 527,000 total viewers on beIN Sports. BeIN Sports en Español’s broadcast of the Argentina vs. Colombia World Cup qualifier match drew 639,000 total viewers, making it the most watched World Cup qualifier match on the network to date (beIN Sports).

The 24/7 HD channel Fight Sports "secured carriage on Starman in Estonia, Lattelecom in Latvia and Teo and CGates in Lithuania." As a result, it is "now available in all Nordic and Baltic countries." Fight Sports is operated by CSI Sports and made its debut in Dec. '12 (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 12/20).
