Franchise Notes: ManU Set To Return To U.S. West Coast In '17

ManU is "poised to return to the west coast of the United States for the club’s summer tour" and could play Man City "as part of preparations for next season." The L.A. area "is a favourite" of Manager José Mourinho, who has taken Chelsea, Real Madrid and Inter Milan to California in preseason. Mourinho’s preference is "to train at UCLA which is located in Westwood, in an area more part of the metropolis" (London GUARDIAN, 12/19).

Tottenham Hotspur has "dropped the price of tickets" for the Europa League to as low as just £5 ($6.20) and could keep the top tier of Wembley Stadium shut. Having attracted crowds of over 85,000 for the Champions League games against Monaco and Bayer Leverkusen, Tottenham saw its Wembley attendance drop to 62,000 for the visit of CSKA Moscow once the club had already been eliminated. Aware that a Europa League second-leg tie against Belgian club Gent in February "may struggle to attract a big crowd," Tottenham has "slashed" its prices, with the most expensive ticket on general sale priced at £25 ($31) (London GUARDIAN, 12/20).

Italian Antonio Giovinazzi  "will be Ferrari's reserve driver next season." The 23-year-old, who is likely to drive the car in testing during the campaign as well as carry out work in the simulator, "was runner-up in the GP2 feeder series this year" (REUTERS, 12/20). ... Ferrari also announced the launch date of its new car. The Italian team will debut the new car at its privately owned Fiorano circuit on Feb. 24 (Scuderia Ferrari).

League Championship side Nottingham Forest risks "losing stars next month" after Owner Fawaz al-Hasawi "put a block on new contracts until he sells up." Forest captain Henri Lansbury heads the list of players "whose contracts are up next summer at the Championship strugglers." But Al-Hasawi told club officials "not to negotiate or table terms until Forest is taken over." American representatives "were at the club last week" to try to push through the protracted £50M ($61.8M) deal (London DAILY MIRROR, 12/20).
