Red Bull Salzburg Reports $1.77M Loss, Rapid Vienna Generates $12.1M Profit

Austrian top-tier football club Red Bull Salzburg "has for the first time since the takeover by the energy drink producer reported a loss at the end of the season," according to Michael Fiala of 90MINUTEN.at. League rivals Sturm Graz and Austria Vienna also finished the '15-16 season with a loss. Rapid Vienna, however, has generated a €10M ($10.4M) profit. Red Bull Salzburg reported a €1.7M ($1.77M) loss for the past season. As a result of UEFA's financial fair play regulations, Red Bull reduced its contribution to the club. Red Bull Salzburg Managing Dir Jochen Sauer: "The negative result for the 2015-16 season is due to the fact that FC Red Bull Salzburg failed to qualify for the UEFA Europa League group stage, which had been budgeted for." Sauer added that the financial result for the '16-17 season will be "drastically better." Rapid Vienna made a profit of €11.6M ($12.1M) for the past season. Austria reported a loss of €2.9M ($3M), while Sturm Graz made a €1.8M ($1.87M) loss. Salzburg led the league in terms of revenues with €60.7M ($63.1M) in '15-16 (90MINUTEN.at, 12/19).
