Liverpool Owner Henry Responds To Reporter Claiming Club Sale Is 'Imminent'

Liverpool Owner John Henry "shot down" the latest club takeover rumors "in typical fashion as he took to Twitter to deny the claims, echoing memories of his famous post about Arsenal’s transfer offer for Luis Suarez" in '13, according to Jack de Menezes of the London INDEPENDENT. Henry, who "fronts" Fenway Sports Group, the owners of the Merseyside club, has "insisted" that the club is not for sale "despite reports of an imminent takeover approach from China," with club Chair Tom Werner also ruling out a change of ownership by saying the club was "not for sale." Talksport reporter Ian Abrahams posted a message on Twitter on Tuesday night claiming that "the takeover of Liverpool Football Club would be completed before Christmas." Abrahams' revelation "caught Henry by surprise," and he took to Twitter to respond directly to the reporter. Henry wrote, "@BroadcastMoose @LFC Good that your sources will be debunked so soon. Usually it takes a long time!" The reply left Liverpool fans "in stitches" on social media, "with many sending Abrahams memes and jokes after having his story dismissed in such public fashion" (INDEPENDENT, 12/15).
