Football Notes: Dario Gradi To Be Interviewed By FA Regarding Sex Abuse Scandal

League Two side Crewe Alexandra Football Dir Dario Gradi is expected to be interviewed by the FA over claims he "smoothed over" a complaint of sex assault by a Chelsea scout in the '70s. A former youth player at Chelsea -- where Gradi was assistant manager -- said he was assaulted by chief scout Eddie Heath when he was 15. He said that Gradi "visited his parents at the time." Gradi said that he "did nothing wrong and that he will help in the FA's review" (BBC, 12/7).

UEFA charged Celtic in connection with crowd trouble during the 1-1 draw at Man City in the Champions League on Tuesday. The visiting supporters "are alleged to have set off fireworks and caused other crowd disturbances." UEFA's disciplinary body will examine the case on Feb. 23 (BBC, 12/7).

The first registration office and fan passport center for both the FIFA World Cup 2018 and Confederations Cup 2017 in Russia "has opened on Liteyny Prospekt in St. Petersburg." Russia’s Deputy PM responsible for Sport, Tourism & Youth Politics and Head of the World Cup local organizing committee Vitaly Mutko was on hand "to cut the center's ribbon," alongside Russian Minister of Communications & Mass Media Nikolay Nikiforov. The passports -- or "FAN ID" as they are known -- are "an important component of the upcoming tournaments." The documents will "provide the supporters access to matches and for foreign fans double as Russian entry visas throughout the championships." It is already possible to apply for a passport, the first of which will be issued in February. Other similar centers will be opened in and be exclusive to the remaining host cities (RT, 12/7).
