Event Notes: Harrogate To Host Finishes During 2019 Road World Championships

Harrogate "is set to host the finish for all the races" when the 2019 Road World Championships are staged in Yorkshire. The "spa town" has been proposed by race organizers and the Int'l Cycling Union (UCI) is "expected to ratify the decision" when officials visit in January. Welcome to Yorkshire, with partners UK Sport and British Cycling, won the bid to host the week-long championships. It will be the first time Britain has hosted the annual championships in 37 years (BBC, 12/3).

The Pakistan Hockey Federation "has to pull out its team from the Junior World Cup" which is being held in Lucknow, India, from Thursday-Dec. 18 after the deadline for confirmation expired on Nov. 28. The Int'l Hockey Federation (FIH) gave no honor to the PHF’s request that it was "ready to participate in the mega event but India was not issuing visas to the Pakistan squad." The FIH "turned a deaf ear to the PHF request and invited stand-by Malaysia to replace Pakistan" (DAWN, 12/4).

In "the wake of objections raised by at least two State associations," the Board of Control for Cricket in India "decided to review its decision" to reschedule two Ranji Trophy league matches that were called off on the second day of the four-day affair. In fact, "indications are the senior tournament committee is all set to reverse the earlier decision of rescheduling the two games" (THE HINDU, 12/4).
