Scottish Club Aberdeen Planning To Build Safe Standing Section At New Stadium

Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen Chair Stewart Milne revealed the club plans to follow Celtic’s lead and "build a safe standing section at their new stadium," according to John Berry of THE SCOTTISH SUN. The Dons will "officially lodge their planning application" for the £50M ($62.46M) Kingsford ground and training complex in January and "hope to start construction in June." Milne said that fans "have requested many features including a standing area like the one in place at Parkhead." He said, "We will have a stadium with all the corporate facilities we need and a stadium with the facilities the fans need inside and out in the fanzone." Milne admitted raising the funds for the new stadium would be a "huge challenge" but was confident the goal "could be achieved." The Dons "will sell off Pittodrie and aim to sell the naming rights of their new ground." Milne: "The important thing is that we tackle it in manageable stages. The focus at the moment is not on the stadium, it is delivering the community and training facilities" (THE SCOTTISH SUN, 11/29).
