Current AC Milan Owner Vows To 'Take My Milan Back' If Sale Falls Through

The Chinese consortium seeking to buy Serie A side AC Milan is "committed to signing the deal soon," it said on Saturday after club Owner Silvio Berlusconi "hinted at a further delay to the long-awaited acquisition," according to Francesca Landini of REUTERS. The group of investors, backed by Haixia Capital and entrepreneur Yonghong Li, signed a deal in August with former Italian PM Berlusconi "to gain full control" of the club through investment vehicle Sino-Europe Sports Investment Management Changxing (SES). Last week, SES said that the deal "would likely be sealed on Dec. 13." Berlusconi said that SES had "assured him it had the money to buy the club, but the approvals the investors needed from the Chinese government could further delay the closing" (REUTERS, 11/26). ESPN.com's Ben Gladwell reported Berlusconi has said he will "take my Milan back" if the proposed takeover is not completed by Dec. 13. But he warned that the deal "will be called off if all the necessary paperwork is not completed by then." Berlusconi: "The completion will be Dec. 13, it's all done. But if it does not get completed then, I will take my Milan back -- and would do so with great pleasure." If the sale fell through, he said, "I would change our strategy ... we would have a totally Italian and very young Milan" (ESPN.com, 11/24).
