West Ham To Be Asked To Pull Weight For Extra Policing Of London Stadium

West Ham is "going to be asked to contribute to the cost of policing the London Stadium on match days," according to Charles Sale of the London DAILY MAIL. This follows the need for a "dramatically increased police presence at the Stratford ground following the trouble at West Ham's matches there this season." The tenancy agreement that West Ham negotiated with its London Legacy Development Corp. landlords for the 25-days-a-year use states that "all policing and stewarding costs are met by the LLDC." However, such have been the "outbreaks of hooliganism" at the start of West Ham's first season at the London Stadium that the LLDC feels it has a "strong case" for West Ham to pay for some of the unanticipated extra police costs. These will "vary according to the opposition." The proposition has "yet to be put to West Ham, with all stakeholders at the London Stadium concentrating on sorting out the problem before allocating who pays what." Meanwhile, West Ham's troubles at the London Stadium are "starting to concern other Premier League clubs," who do not want the image of the Premier League "tainted in any way by the violence that has marred some of the games." Despite West Ham's difficulties, there are reports of the club being quoted as costing £1B ($1.3B) to purchase by N.Y. investment banks. Such a figure is nearly three times the £374M "price tag put on the club before the problem move into the London Stadium" (DAILY MAIL, 11/9).
