JACQUES FONTAINE was elected as the new president of the World Squash Federation following the completion of Indian N. RAMACHANDRAN’s second and final four-year term. Fontaine becomes the federation’s ninth president since the WSF’s inception in '67 -- the first Frenchman and third European -- and was elected by delegates representing 59 national federations. Also elected at the meeting were four new VPs: PABLO SERNA, president of the Colombian Federation; SARAH FITZ-GERALD, the five-time world champion and current world over-45 champion from Australia; GAR HOLOHAN, president of the Irish Federation; and HUANG YING HOW, president of the Malaysian Federation (PTI, 11/9).
COACHES/MANAGERS: Spanish basketball coach RICARDO GONZÁLEZ DÁVILA was named the coach of North Korea's national basketball team. He has previously coached in Chile and Bolivia (MARCA, 11/8). ... La Liga side Osasuna announced JOAQUIN CAPARROS has been appointed as its new head coach until June '18. Osasuna parted company with ENRIQUE MARTIN on Tuesday "after the coach led the club to just one win" from its opening 11 league games, which left it sitting second from bottom in the standings. Caparros has coached a "long list of clubs," including Sevilla and Athletic Bilbao, and left his last job with Granada in Jan. '15 (REUTERS, 11/9). ... Spanish football coach GREGORIO MANZANO is "parting company" with Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua, the club said, despite him taking it to a "fourth-place finish" in this year's CSL. Manzano, 60, managed Málaga, Atlético Madrid and Mallorca in his native Spain before landing his first job in China at Beijing Guoan in '14 (AFP, 11/9).
