Marketplace Roundup: Adidas Reportedly Suing Nike Over Barcelona's '16-17 Shirt

Barcelona's shirt this season "was well received by its fans, who saw the team recover its traditional vertical stripes." Marketing Deportivo MD reported that adidas "has taken legal action against Nike, which has been Barcelona's kit supplier since '98-99, and the club as it believes the thinner stripes on the uniform are inspired by the German brand's iconic three lines" (MUNDO DEPORTIVO, 11/9).

Cricket Australia and Drinkwise "will partner for the first time," promoting responsible alcohol consumption and encouraging cricket fans "not to miss a moment of the action." Through the Drinkwise campaign, "You won't miss a moment if you DrinkWise," cricket fans will be reminded of the benefits of pacing themselves and drinking in moderation, through a series of broadcast messages and on-ground activations. The campaign, supported by major alcohol producers Carlton and United Breweries and Hardys Wines, will be featured on TV, radio and activations around cricket venues (THE SPORTS CAMPUS, 11/9).

Brasileiro side São Paulo "extended its kit sponsorship deals with building materials supplier Joli and soft drinks company Poty, both for two more seasons." Joli’s branding will "remain on the back of São Paulo’s jerseys, while Poty’s logo will remain on the team’s shorts." Joli will "receive promotion via São Paulo’s social media channels and will be granted a corporate box for the club’s home games" (ISPORT CONNECT, 11/9). 

Novel Ford was on Tuesday unveiled as the official sponsor of the Namibian rugby sevens side "for the upcoming Safland Sevens tournament," slated for The Dome in Swakopmund on Nov. 12-13. The total value of the sponsorship is N$175,000 ($13,035) and "includes the transport of the team to the tournament from Windhoek to Swakopmund," and for the duration of its stay in Swakopmund (NEW ERA, 11/9).

Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach has agreed to a partnership with music streaming service Spotify. As part of the digital partnership, Gladbach will receive on official profile on the service. The various playlists can be accessed under www.spotify.com/borussia (Borussia Mönchengladbach).

Swiss Super League club FC Luzern signed a new sponsorship deal with sports retail chain Ochsner Sport. The deal will begin with the start of the second half of the Swiss football league season. As part of the deal, Ochsner Sport's logo will be visible on the left sleeve of the jersey. In addition, adidas will become the club's new kit supplier (FC Luzern).
