Media Notes: Poland's Canal+ Sport Reduces Coverage Of EPL Due To Piracy

Poland’s Canal+ Sport "has reduced its coverage of Premier League games" due to piracy in the U.K. Quoting a statement by the channel explaining the situation, Satkurier reported that this "follows instances of illegal showing of Premier League games in pubs and other public establishments" in the U.K. using nc+ decoders. However, the number of matches broadcast live over the season "will remain unchanged and all will be done to rectify the situation." Satkurier adds that it is "unclear how long this reduction in coverage will continue" (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 11/7).

German production company Plazamedia will cut a quarter of its staff next year. The company, which is a subsidiary of German media corp. Constantin Medien, "will cut about 50 positions in '17." A Constantin spokesperson said, "It is correct that Plazamedia will make necessary staff cuts." Reasons for the reduction are the expiration of its contract with Sky in '17 and a planned company restructure (MEEDIA, 11/8).
