Olympique de Marseille named ANDONI ZUBIZARRETA its new sporting director. The former Spain int’l and Athletic Bilbao and Barcelona sporting director will take his post with immediate effect (OM). ... Rape Crisis Manager ELEANOR BUTTERWORTH, who has worked for Women's Refuge, "has been appointed as New Zealand Rugby's respect and responsibility project manager." Butterworth is "currently the agency manager for Wellington Rape Crisis and was previously education and programme co-ordinator for Wellington Women's Refuge." She will join NZR "in late November" (STUFF, 10/27). ... MARK ALEXANDER was named the new president of South Africa Rugby at a special general council meeting. Alexander was "elected unopposed" to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of OREGAN HOSKINS in August. Alexander, who has served as deputy president since '07, "will serve as president until the next elections" in '18. Alexander "immediately highlighted a number of priorities for SA Rugby in the short and medium term." He said that the immediate priorities were "assisting the national team; addressing the structure and sustainability of member unions; redesigning SA Rugby’s competition structure; transformation and securing the 2023 Rugby World Cup for South Africa" (SPORT 24, 10/27). ... WME-IMG appointed longtime NBA exec MICHAEL MA as CEO of its China subsidiary, with the goal of expanding the company's sports and entertainment reach in the country. Ma spent the past 13 years with the NBA, where he played a "big role in developing the league’s presence in China." He will be based in Beijing. WME-IMG China was formed in June via a Sequoia Capital China-led investment group that includes Tencent, FountainVest Partners and Focus Media (DEADLINE, 10/26). ... Former ESPN exec MARC HORINE will be named GM of the America’s for Copa90, a digital football business owned by London-based football media company Bigballs Media, which counts Liberty Global, Major League Soccer and venture capital firm e.ventures as its the biggest investors. Horine, who was ESPN digital VP/revenue & operations, will try to grow Copa90’s U.S. business. He will be based in N.Y. and oversee an office that already has 20 employees. Horine was part of the layoffs last year at ESPN, when the company let go of more than 300 employees to cut costs (John Ourand, Staff Writer). 

COACHES/MANAGERS: French Pro A basketball side SIG Strasbourg announced that head coach HENRIK DETTMANN was suspended for a possible breach in his contract. In the interim, France national team Manager VINCENT COLLET was named as the club’s head coach (Strasbourg).
