The auction sale for the commemorative jerseys OGC Nice and Rennes wore in their season-opening match to pay homage to the July 14 Nice terrorist attack victims raised €121,500 ($132,500) for the “Promenade des Anges” association. That money will go to help the families of the victims. The jerseys had the names of the 86 victims printed in the shape of a heart. Nice President Jean-Pierre Rivère said, “I am very moved by this solidarity. It proves that we can have confidence in human beings.” Club partners, former players and presidents, rival clubs and the French Professional Football League (LFP) came together to show their support (OGC Nice). L’ÉQUIPE reported former Nice President André Boïs bought Mario Balotelli’s jersey for €11,100 ($12,105). Former Nice player and current Paris St. Germain midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa bought former teammate Yoan Cardinale and Rennes player Adama Diakhaby’s jerseys for €3,100 ($3,380). Ligue 1 side Montpellier contributed €3,300 ($3,600) to the auction. The French Football Federation purchased two jerseys for €5,600 ($6,100) while the LFP contributed €8,500 ($9,270) (L’ÉQUIPE, 10/25).
