Media Notes: ESPN Mexico Unveils SportsCenter Ads Starring NBA Suns' Mascot

In anticipation of the start of the NBA season, ESPN Mexico and ESPN Deportes debuted two new “This is SportsCenter” commercials in Spanish, featuring SportsCenter anchors Jorge Eduardo Sánchez, Ricardo Puig and Jorge Mercader, alongside “Go,” the NBA Phoenix Suns Gorilla. The first spot, titled “Jungle,” opens with Sánchez explaining that ESPN offers the opportunity for its employees to decorate their own office space and give it a personal touch. The spot then cuts to Puig, who asks his colleague, Go, if he’d like to go to lunch, revealing his “jungle” cubicle while he jumps over the cubicle to head to lunch. The second spot, titled “Go Bananas,” features Mercader searching for something to eat in the refrigerator and finally deciding on a banana. When he closes the fridge, he is surprised to find “Go” behind the door. Both commercials were created by ESPN International's marketing team in Mexico (ESPN).

EGYPTIAN DEALChelsea "agreed to a new tie-up with Egyptian broadcaster ON Sport that will help expand the club's reach in the region." The media rights deal with ON Sport "will see the Egyptian media firm carry the club's official Chelsea TV channel for three years" up to the end of the '18-19. The deal was brokered by London-based agency B4 Capital. Although the "exact terms of the agreement remain undisclosed," it is understood that the partnership also includes rights across the Middle East and Africa, adding to similar deals with carriers in Europe, Asia and the Americas (BDAILY, 10/25).

The partnership will see NBL games broadcast via Pacific Cooperation Broadcasting Ltd.’s contribution feed Pasifika TV, which currently delivers up to 56 hours of content per week to 23 Pacific free-to-air broadcasters across 11 countries (NBL).

GLOBAL RUGBY: World Rugby appointed Int'l Games Broadcast Services as host broadcaster for the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan. IGBS is a partnership between IMG and Host Broadcasting Services -- a subsidiary of Infront Sports & Media.
