Media Notes: NBA, Kwesé Sports Launch Sub-Saharan Africa NBA Website

The NBA and Kwesé Sports, a division of Econet Media, announced the launch of www.nba.com/africa, the NBA's new official online destination in sub-Saharan Africa. The new website will serve as the premier destination for coverage of African NBA players. Additionally, the website will highlight NBA events and grassroots initiatives across the continent, including Jr. NBA programs and Basketball without Borders Africa camps. In addition to hosting the new official online destination, Kwesé platforms in sub-Saharan Africa will broadcast the '16-17 NBA season, which tips off on Tuesday (NBA). 

NEW WAY TO WATCH: NBA League Pass Int'l, the league's live games subscription service, will introduce a new way to watch basketball on mobile devices and tablets throughout the '16-17 NBA season with the introduction of NBA Mobile View. Developed by the NBA and Turner Sports through their NBA Digital partnership, the new offering was created by installing new cameras in all 29 NBA arenas with each game having a designated producer specifically for NBA Mobile View (NBA). 

SPECIAL WINTER GAMES: ESPN is to deliver its first coverage of Special Olympics World Winter Games 2017 in Austria. The Games are expected to be the largest Special Olympics World Winter Games in history, with more than 2,600 Special Olympics athletes and coaches from 106 nations. ESPN's coverage, from March 18-25, marks the first global coverage for a World Winter Games event. ESPN's coverage will be carried across its networks and media platforms in the U.S. and at least 190 countries and territories around the world (ESPN). 

EFL CUP: Eurosport has secured exclusive rights for the '16-17 English Football League Cup in Malaysia and Brunei on Astro. The agreement includes the rights to the remaining 11 matches featuring a matchup between the qualifying teams. The EFL Cup is licensed from MP & Silva (Eurosport).

Lagardère Sports
has renewed contracts for the worldwide media distribution rights (excluding host countries) to three more ATP 250 events. The agency renewed deals with the Ricoh Open in 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands, Ecuador Open in Quito, and China's Shenzhen Open (Lagardère Sports). 

FIFA has opened an invitation to tender in Finlandsub-Saharan Africa and Russia for the media rights to the Confederations Cup Russia 2017, the 2018 World Cup Russia, the Women’s World Cup France 2019 and the 2022 World Cup Qatar. These media rights will cover TV, internet protocol TV, and internet, mobile and radio transmissions for FIFA’s flagship tournaments that are scheduled to take place between '17 and '22 (FIFA).
