An NFL exec who took American football to Wembley "has revealed he hopes to bring the same razzmatazz to Scotland," according to Colan Lamont of the Scotland DAILY RECORD. Alistair Kirkwood has helped organize "more than 20 NFL clashes" at the home of English football. But Kirkwood, who describes himself as a "poor man’s Don King," wants to fulfill his dream of having an NFL clash at Hampden or Murrayfield. And he reckons "it could bring a multi-million-pound tourism bonanza north of the Border." The 53-year-old Celtic fan, who is based in London, said, "I would love to deliver an NFL game to Scotland. We’re guilty of focusing too much on London but had fan events all over the U.K. earlier this year. There was one in Edinburgh’s Usher Hall and it had the loudest fans and a great atmosphere. Hampden and Murrayfield are two of only six stadiums in Britain that have the right size pitch and all the other things needed to hold an NFL game. I think a match would be a great thing for Scotland." One NFL game brings about £15M ($18.2M) in revenue to London and Kirkwood wants Scotland "to cash in on the world’s most lucrative sport" (DAILY RECORD, 10/16).
