Real Madrid's Stadium Renovations Hinge On Financial Backing From IPIC

Real Madrid "continues to depend on Abu Dhabi-based IPIC, the investment firm that will finance part of the renovations of the Santiago Bernabéu," according to ECODIARIO. In Abu Dhabi, "there are doubts due to the possible delay to the work." This circumstance "has provoked an evaluation about the suitability of the investment." The stadium renovations "have been a dream of Real Madrid President Florentino Pérez since '00." It is "a dream that has not yet been fulfilled, despite the agreement with the City Council, as it is dependent on what happens with IPIC." The investment fund pulling out would mean a reduction of €400M ($442M) in funding, "a quantity sufficient to paralyze everything." IPIC's doubts "would have legal support, because if the renovations are not completed in '18, the agreement reached in '14 would be void." The information revealed by Pérez "mentioned '20 as the date when the project would be finished." This delay of two years "would leave the Real Madrid president in uncertainty, as everything depends on IPIC" (ECODIARIO, 10/13).
