Heart Of Midlothian Gets Green Light For $14M Tynecastle Redevelopment

Scottish Premiership side Heart of Midlothian has been "given the green light to begin work" on its new main stand which will boost the Tynecastle capacity beyond 20,000, according to the Scotland DAILY RECORD. Edinburgh City Council approved plans for the £12M ($14.7M) project which will "see demolition work begin next month, removing sections of the existing stand, ticket offices and shops." And, by following "a plan similar to the one Liverpool used in the stunning reconstruction of Anfield this summer," the club hopes "there will be no need to close the stand during the season." The new 7,000-seat enclosure is expected to be "operational by next September." The building work "will take place on the exterior of the stand and work up and over the old structure thus allowing the inside of the stand to remain open on match days up until the end of the season." To allow the final stages of redevelopment to be completed, Hearts will ask the Scottish Professional Football League to play its last two matches of this season and the first two of the next campaign "away from home to allow interior work to be done" (DAILY RECORD, 10/12).
