Tottenham Head of Recruitment Paul Mitchell is among the names "being considered by Marseille." The French club is in the process of being taken over by former L.A. Dodgers Owner Frank McCourt and wants "to speak to Mitchell" about becoming its head of recruitment. Mitchell has resigned from his role with Tottenham but is still "officially with the club until a departure date is mutually agreed" with Chair Daniel Levy. Marseille is also considering ManU's France-based scout and former Nottingham Forest midfielder David Friio "as an alternative option" (London DAILY MAIL, 10/8).
Ryan Giggs has confirmed he did meet with Swansea City to discuss the manager’s job but said the move did not happen because "their ambitions didn’t really match mine." The American Bob Bradley was appointed on Oct. 3 "to replace Francesco Guidolin, who was sacked following a poor start to the season." It has been reported Giggs was "also interviewed but was not offered the job, with his lack of experience among the club hierarchy’s concerns." Giggs implied he had his own reservations about the role, and complained of "mixed messages" from the club (London GUARDIAN, 10/9).
New Zealand equaled its record of 17 test wins in a row as the team claimed its "biggest victory over old foes South Africa on Saturday, a crushing 57-15 triumph in the Rugby Championship at King's Park." It is the third time New Zealand has "won 17 successive tests." The All Blacks can break the record in the next match, the Bledisloe Cup against Australia in Auckland on Oct. 22 (REUTERS, 10/9).
