Franchise Notes: Engine Fire Forces Lewis Hamilton To Retire From Malaysia Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton admitted "something doesn’t feel right" after "another failure" of his Mercedes engine at the Malaysia Grand Prix. He was leading before "the engine fire which retired him from the race," and has handed Nico Rosberg a 23-point advantage in the championship with just five races remaining in '16. While it is unclear if Hamilton "was hinting at any conspiracy theories at Mercedes," his comments were as "explosive as his power unit." He said, "I just can’t believe that there’s eight Mercedes cars and only my engines are the ones that have gone this way. Something just doesn’t feel right. It was a brand new engine ... it’s just odd. There’s been like 43 engines for Mercedes and only mine have gone" (NEWS.COM.AU, 10/2).

A 39-year-old man "has died after a coach carrying Glasgow Rangers football supporters crashed on the way to a Scottish Premiership match." Eighteen other people are recovering in hospital. One fan was "cut free from the wreckage and airlifted to hospital." Among those also taken to hospital were two women, one who injured her leg and another who sustained cuts to her head and ear. The accident happened on Saturday at lunchtime at a roundabout on the A76 near Kilmarnock in Ayrshire. According to reports on social media, "the bus was carrying the Nith Valley Loyal Rangers supporters" (London GUARDIAN, 10/1).

Arsenal supporters "had their journey to watch the team play Burnley at Turf Moor thrown into chaos after a Grand Central train collided with a herd of cows." The 9:38am service from Kings Cross on Sunday "reportedly killed eight cows crossing the track between London and Peterborough," blocking lines and disrupting services running north from the capital. Arsenal fan and writer Tim Stillman tweeted that his train had been sent back to London. He said, "First game I’m missing in nearly 15 years and it’s cos a train hit a cow" (GUARDIAN, 10/2).
