Russian club FC Rostov "is likely to face a UEFA disciplinary case for fan racism" after a banana was thrown onto the field during a Champions League game against PSV Eindhoven. The FARE Network, "which monitors racist incidents for UEFA, said Thursday the banana was thrown about eight minutes into Wednesday's 2-2 draw." The banana remained on the field "for at least 15 minutes" (AP, 9/29).
Polish side Legia Warsaw's "unhappy" Champions League campaign "suffered another blow" on Thursday when it was ordered to host its match against Real Madrid in an empty stadium. UEFA's disciplinary committee said that it ordered the Polish champion to play its "next home game behind closed doors following crowd trouble" during its 6-0 home defeat by Borussia Dortmund earlier this month. The club was also fined €80,000 ($89,700) (REUTERS, 9/29).
Scottish Premiership side Celtic has been fined €10,000 ($11,212) by UEFA "over Palestinian flags displayed by fans during the Champions league match against Hapoel Be'er Sheva." Fans flew the flag "before and during the match against Israeli opposition," drawing a charge from UEFA. At a disciplinary hearing on Wednesday, "the complaint against the Scottish champions was upheld" and a fine of €10,000 imposed (STV, 9/29).
Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock fans "have been called to arms ahead of this weekend’s match against Aberdeen with the supporters’ association proposing a protest." The call for action comes after businessman Chris McMail said that he would "pull the plug" on a proposed £750,000 ($972,800) investment if Dir Michael Johnston "remained involved with the club." In a public statement released earlier this week, the Kilmarnock Football Club Supporters Association demanded Johnston step down from the Rugby Park board. Now the KFCSA unveiled that it expects to protest against Johnston's refusal to leave the club and have called for this to be done "within the boundaries of the law" (Scotland DAILY RECORD, 9/29).
