Former La Liga side Eibar President Álex Aranzábal "made his first remarks after announcing he will run to become president of La Liga," according to Sergio Fernández of MARCA. The "first and most urgent priority for him is reducing the tension, controversies, lawsuits and level of clashes between fans, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and other organizations." He said, "The first thing is that to me there is a clear distancing between the clubs and fans. The relationship between La Liga and the fan base has to improve. I do not know if the word is divorce, but there is a growing distance and we have to redirect this situation. ... When yesterday I wrote on social media that I was running, there was support from all areas of Spain and all the fan bases." Aranzábal said of Tebas' resignation and decision to hold the election -- in which he will run for re-election -- six months early, on Oct. 18, "Why has he moved up the election? He will have to explain this, I don't know why. What is apparent is that this was done quickly and unpredictably. Spanish football was counting on his term expiring and the election being next year, and suddenly with this move we see how the whole calendar changes" (MARCA, 9/28).
