Olympique Lyonnais Fans Rushed By Spanish Police Before Champions League Match

Ahead of Olympique Lyonnais’ Champions League loss to Sevilla on Tuesday, groups of supporters from both clubs were “exchanging chants and insults” when the OL fans were “suddenly and violently charged by Spanish police," according to Bilel Ghazi of L’ÉQUIPE. OL President Jean-Michel Aulas called it an “incomprehensible aggression.” Among the OL fans, there were 20 injured, two seriously injured and four arrested. A senior member of an OL supporters group said, “Our goal is not to whine. But four of us must go before a judge tomorrow (Wednesday) and it's imperative, for them, that our version, which will be supported by the numerous images, is heard. We were violently charged by the police when we arrived at the stadium, especially by the mounted police. It happened before the OL officials and the UEFA delegates, who were shocked and outraged” (L’ÉQUIPE, 9/28).
