Russian Sport Minister VITALY MUTKO has been elected to "stay on as the president of the Russian Football Union." The 57-year-old received 266 votes, while his main rival, former Russia and CSKA Moscow coach VALERY GAZZAEV, received 142 votes (RT, 9/24). ... AJAY SINGH was elected president of the Boxing Federation of India, and the Mumbai-based JAY KOWLI "won the post of secretary-general as the election process for the office-bearers of the new National federation was completed." Singh, who polled 49 out of the 64 votes cast, defeated ROHIT JAIN (15 votes). Kowli polled 48 votes, ahead of LENNY D'GAMA (12) and RAKESH THAKRAN (4). HEMANTA KUMAR KALITA was elected unopposed as treasurer (THE HINDU, 9/25). ... Former IOC Sports Dir KELLY FAIRWEATHER "has been hired" as COO of the Int'l Tennis Federation. The appointment was announced Monday. The 55-year-old Fairweather served as IOC sports director from '03-07. He was director of the European office of the World Anti-Doping Agency from '09-10 and CEO of the Sports Performance Institute of Stellenbosch University in South Africa from '07-08. Fairweather will start at the ITF on Jan. 1, and replaces JUAN MARGETS (AP, 9/26). ... The Asian Football Confederation on Monday announced the appointment of CHUNG MONG GYU from South Korea as VP, replacing veteran ZHANG JILONG of China, who recently resigned. Chung is the incumbent president of the South Korean FA (XINHUA, 9/26). ... Int'l Tennis Federation Exec Dir of Commercial ANDREW WALKER has left the governing body to pursue other opportunities (THE DAILY).

COACHES/MANAGERS: Argentine first division side Vélez Sarsfield coach CHRISTIAN BASSEDAS on Monday confirmed his resignation, which he first announced on Saturday following his team's loss to Racing (DYN, 9/26). ... Ligue 2 side Auxerre Manager VIOREL MOLDOVAN, who “slammed his bosses on Friday,” was fired on Monday. After the club’s 1-0 loss to le Havre on Friday, Moldovan “pointed toward poor recruitment and management problems and complained about his superiors never listening to him.” Moldovan replaced JEAN-LUC VANNUCHI at Auxerre less than three months ago (L’ÉQUIPE, 9/26). ... German side Hamburg appointed MARKUS GISDOL as its new coach, "hours after sacking BRUNO LABBADIA in the wake of a fourth straight Bundesliga defeat." Gisdol, who formerly coached Hoffenheim and was "briefly an assistant at Schalke 04, signed a contract until the end of the season" (REUTERS, 9/26). ... MICHAEL LAUDRUP is "set to return to football management" by taking charge of Qatar league champions Al Rayyan. Former Barcelona and Real Madrid player Laudrup will replace JORGE FOSSATI, "who was appointed as coach of Qatar's national team over the weekend." Laudrup previously coached at Premier League side Swansea City (AFP, 9/26). ... Spanish second division side Getafe dismissed coach JUAN ESNAIDER on Monday "after a poor start to the campaign." Esnaider, 43, had been in charge of Getafe since replacing FRAN ESCRIBA on April 12 "but the Madrid outfit, relegated from La Liga after finishing 19th in the standings last season, have lost four of their last five games in all competitions" (ESPN.com, 9/26).
