Football Notes: French Football Federation Unveils Film Supporting Women's Football

The French Football Federation produced a promotional short film to support its development plan for women’s football. The video’s goal is to remind the public that football offers women an opportunity for personal enrichment. As a part of its development plan, the FFF wants to allow the French public, particularly women, to live out their passion, be it leisure or elite (FFF).

CALLING FOR MERGER: Asian Football Confederation President Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has "called for the merger of the I-League and the Indian Super League," saying a single national football league "will best benefit the future development of the game in India." Al Khalifa said that while he "considers the ISL a positive step forward, overall it has marginalised the I-League, India's recognised national league competition, and has had little impact on improving the game in the country." He said, "The ISL has shown the enormous potential for football in India. But it is just a three-month tournament and that is not enough" (ESPN.com, 9/26).

QATARI OFFICIAL BANNED: FIFA has banned a senior Qatar official from "running in elections for a seat on its new-look council over an investigation." Scandal-plagued FIFA’s ethics committee last month "recommended a two-and-a-half-year ban from the game" for Qatar FA VP Saoud Al-Mohannadi for refusing to cooperate with an inquiry. FIFA has "not revealed the subject of the inquiry, but it is not connected with the 2022 World Cup, which Qatar will host." Mohannadi "denies any wrongdoing" and had been cleared to stand in the Asian Football Confederation elections in Goa, India, on Tuesday before the AFC announced that he had been ruled out (AFP, 9/26).
