Iceland Will Not Feature In FIFA 17 Over 'Cash Row' With Game Developers Electronic Arts

The Iceland FA (KSI) said that Iceland will not feature in the FIFA 17 video game "because of a cash row with developers Electronic Arts," according to Kris Holland of the BBC. The KSI said that EA's financial offer of $15,000 for its inclusion "was below" its expectations. Iceland, which knocked England out of Euro 2016 in June, "made a counter offer" which was not accepted by EA. KSI President Geir Thorsteinsson said, "They are the ones buying these rights and they almost want it for free." The fee that EA pays teams included in the game "covers the use of trademarks and image rights." Thorsteinsson: "I really feel if we are giving away rights, or offering rights, it has to be proper negotiations and fair fees. I didn't feel that this was done in a fair and open manner" (BBC, 9/20).
