Olympic Notes: IOC Promises To Help Brazilian Authorities In 'Ticket Touting' Probe

The IOC has "promised to cooperate with Brazilian authorities in the ticket 'touting' investigation" that has targeted one of its exec board members. The statement came as IOC President Thomas Bach "missed the opening of the Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, where police wanted to interview him about the case." Olympic Council of Ireland President Patrick Hickey was "among ten people charged by Brazilian prosecutors" on Tuesday with ticket "scalping." The IOC said, "For the IOC it goes without saying that it will cooperate on this matter." It is "unclear" if Bach will go to Brazil for any of the Paralympics, which last until Sept. 18 (SCOTSMAN, 9/7).

The IPC announced in Rio on Thursday that it is renewing its partnership with BP for another four years until the end of '20. The oil and gas company became a partner of London 2012 and from there started to partner with National Paralympic Committees. In addition to its support for the IPC, BP currently supports 10 NPCs -- Angola, Azerbaijan, Georgia, the Netherlands, Turkey, Trinidad and Tobago, Great Britain, the U.S., Germany and Singapore. The energy company has also supported several Para-athletes and the Paralympic Movement on their road to Rio through its "Energy Within" campaign (IPC).
