Spanish Basketball League Club Valencia Begins Work On Training Center

Spanish Basketball League (ACB) side Valencia Basket -- through the Valencia Basket Foundation 2,000 -- began the construction of the €18M ($20.26M) L'Alqueria del Basket training facility on Thursday, according to MARCA. All of that investment will be provided by billionaire Spanish businessman Juan Roig, "whose motivation is for Valencia to have an elite basketball team and for future generations to view basketball as a way to develop and strengthen their values." It is "the biggest sports project by the club in its 30-year history, as it will be dedicated completely to youth basketball." The facility will be expected to "see the light during the last four months of '17." It will be "a leading facility nationally and internationally that pushes the growth of the club's basketball school, which currently has 450 boys and girls practicing the game." The center will "be self-sufficient and operate on the resources it generates, without the need for public money." It will cover 15,000 square meters and include 13 courts -- four of which will be open-air (MARCA, 9/8).
