Gaelic Athletic Association Plans For 'World-Class' Croke Park Development

The Gaelic Athletic Association "revealed plans for a 'world-class' Irish handball centre, new housing, a new entrance to Croke Park and the reconstruction of Sackville Avenue," according to Will Slattery of the IRISH INDENDENT. In a statement, the GAA said that it "will work alongside Dublin City Council for the reconstruction of Sackville Avenue, which is located to the south-east of the stadium." A National Handball and Community Centre is also planned for the area, with the center to be managed by a "partnership arrangement between the GAA and the local community and handball centre members." The joint statement issued on Wednesday added that the long-running dispute between Croke Park and the Irish Handball Council Sports Centre has been brought to an end "as a result of the arrangements." The project will require planning permission and "other approvals," which will be sought in the "'near future," before it is given the green light (IRISH INDEPENDENT, 9/7).
