England Rugby Unveils New Alternate Kit For Autumn Test Series

England's rugby team will be returning to its "blue days for the first time in 10 years" when the team steps out for the autumn internationals, according to the London TELEGRAPH. The navy blue strip becomes England's seventh replica kit "in just over two years and sees a reintroduction to a popular colour." The front of the shirt "sees a unique graphic of the St George's cross printed into the fabric." The spots on the jersey "have also been inspired by the tradition of wearing bow ties during games throughout the 1900s." The first look of the strip will be at the Old Mutual Series match "against Fiji at Twickenham Stadium" on Nov. 19. The "Test" version of the Canterbury strip will retail at £90 ($118) and the replica version at £65 ($85). While the new kit has been "given the seal of approval by the players," fans will be "disappointed" that the Rugby Football Union decided to bring out another kit. The RFU "came under fire last year for launching a World Cup home and away kit just months after it had unveiled two new kits" for the start of the '14-15 season, which "controversially featured Victoria Cross motifs" (TELEGRAPH, 8/31).

NEW ITALIAN ERA: FOOTBALL ITALIA reported Italy and Puma have unveiled the country's "modern and anamorphic" new away kit to mark "the next" Azzurri era. The kit will be worn by Italy for the first time against France on Thursday "after it was revealed by a 3D street art stunt in Bari’s Piazza del Ferrarese on Wednesday, Marco Verratti, Gianluigi Buffon and Giorgio Chiellini donning the new strip in a large mural" (FOOTBALL ITALIA, 8/31).
