China Everbright Denies Being In Talks To Purchase Liverpool

China Everbright Ltd. CEO Chen Shuang said that the company, part of the state-owned China Everbright Group, "is not in talks to buy a stake" in Liverpool, according to Julie Zhu of REUTERS. Chen said that, after media reports of Everbright's interest in the Premier League club, "he called several executives at different units of Everbright that might be involved in outbound mergers and acquisitions and found no one was working on any such deal." He said, "I really don't know where the media sources come from. I called everyone who might be involved and found no one was aware of this deal." Chen said that sports assets "are not the investment focus of the Chinese conglomerate and Everbright plans to invest instead in the culture and entertainment industry" (REUTERS, 8/31). ESPN.com's Glenn Price reported earlier this month, Everbright was reportedly "interested in buying a large stake of the club from owners Fenway Sports Group." Liverpool Chair Tom Werner has been "adamant that the club is not for sale, but did admit that FSG are open to the idea of selling a small share." Werner: "We've said it before and I'd like to say it again: this club is not for sale. At the same time we've been clear that we actively pursue commercial opportunities which in turn helps us invest in the squad and win football matches" (ESPN.com, 8/31).

LIVERPOOL STAGECOACH: Liverpool teamed up with Stagecoach Bus to offer supporters a more efficient way of getting to and from Anfield this season. Fans will be able to access the 917 express bus service, which will run direct from Liverpool City Centre to Anfield, up to every 10 minutes on matchdays (Liverpool).
