Stade Toulousain To Lose $557,000 In Ticket Revenue After Top14 Match Moved

The Top14 match between Stade Toulousain and RC Toulonnais, which was to be played at the Toulouse Municipal Stadium, will now be played at Ernest-Wallon “because of the condition of the pitch,” costing the club €500,000 ($557,000) in ticket revenue,  according to 20 MINUTES. Since the summer, the pitch has been “attacked by a fungus and cannot host” the match. Stade Toulousain President Jean-René Bouscatel called the decision “shocking.” Bouscatel complained that hosting the match at the 19,000-seat Ernest-Wallon and not at the 33,000-seat Municipal Stadium would mean a loss of €500,000 “for a club which is already in financial trouble.” Bouscatel also “did not appreciate the manner in which the announcement played out.” He said, “Saturday, during the match [against Bordeaux-Bègles], I learned of the official announcement that there would be difficulties in organizing the match against Toulon at the Stadium. I insisted that the Toulouse Council President [Jean-Luc Moudenc] call me personally last night [Tuesday]. And so, it was Ms. [Laurence] Arribagé [Toulouse adjunct sports minister] that called me to answer my questions. I find the style and context somewhat disagreeable” (20 MINUTES, 8/31).
