English coach BEN RYAN has been "given three acres of land in Fiji after helping the Pacific nation to their first Olympic Medal." The Fiji sevens team tweeted that Ryan had been given the land and a "chiefly name" at a ceremony in Serua (BBC, 8/29). ... JOHN MCENROE has "ended his coaching partnership with Canada's MILOS RAONIC ahead of the start of the US Open." McEnroe joined Raonic's team as a coaching consultant for this summer's grass-court season but "came under scrutiny after continuing to commentate on his player's matches at Wimbledon." McEnroe said that his "media commitments with ESPN mean he and Raonic have decided to part ways" (PA, 8/28). ... The Changwon District Court sentenced Korea Baseball Organization club NC Dinos pitcher LEE TAE-YANG, who was "indicted on charges of fixing games" in the KBO, to a 10-month jail term with a stay of execution for two years. The court also ordered the 23-year-old to forfeit 20M won ($17,940) and "serve 200 hours of community service." The court said that it "took into account that Lee confessed to the charges raised and actively cooperated in the investigation before the ruling" (KOREA HERALD, 8/26). ... South Korea's top sports body "will see new faces running for its presidency as the current leaders have decided not to enter the race." KANG YOUNG-JOONG, who is the co-chief of the integrated Korean Olympic Committee along with KIM JUNG-HAENG, said on Friday that he "will not enter the sports body's presidential election, scheduled for Oct. 5." Kim also "recently hinted at not running for president." Meanwhile, the KOC said that former table tennis player RYU SEUNG-MIN has "been appointed a new board member" (YONHAP, 8/26). ... Serie A side Palermo VP GUGLIELMO MICCICHE confirmed the club has "made an offer for out-of-favour Liverpool striker MARIO BALOTELLI." The 26-year-old has been "frozen out of the first team" by Liverpool Manager JÜRGEN KLOPP after "returning from an underwhelming loan spell at AC Milan." Palermo already lodged an offer, and is "now waiting on a response from Liverpool" (KICKOFF, 8/27). ... A-League side Central Coast Mariners announced it has parted ways with assistant coach JOHN HUTCHINSON, effective immediately. Hutchinson, who has been with the Mariners as a player and coach since the club's inception, has reached a mutual agreement with the club that will see him pursue other opportunities (CC Mariners). 

2016 FIBA HOF: The '16 class has been inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame at the House of Basketball, FIBA's HQ "on the outskirts of Geneva." One of "the greatest players in the history of the sport," Nigerian-born HAKEEM OLAJUWON won Gold for the U.S. at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. PANAGIOTIS FASOULAS "won five Greek League Championships and three Greek Cups." Australian basketball "trailblazer" MICHELLE TIMMS is the "first female Australian player to be granted the honour." Former national head coach JORGE HUGO CANAVESI "wrote himself not only into Argentinian basketball folklore, but also global basketball history, when he became the first to mastermind a FIBA Basketball World Cup success at the inaugural event in 1950." Also inducted was MANUEL RAGA, a shooting guard "that many believe to be the greatest Mexican player of all time." JUAN ANTONIO SAN EPIFANIO was known by everyone in the sports world as "Epi," with the Zaragoza-born player considered one of Spain's most "explosive scorers" (INSIDE THE GAMES, 8/28).
