Rio 2016 Followed By 55 Million Smartphones Across Latin America

Rio 2016 "has been the most mobile Olympics ever in Latin America, where 55 million smartphones followed the event," according to Juan Fernandez Gonzalez of RAPID TV NEWS. In addition, figures unveiled by Claro Sports and UNO TV Dir Arturo Elías Ayub revealed that 120 million videos "were played on YouTube through smartphones and 91 million videos were served up through Claro Sports app across the region." Ayud said, "Sixty-four percent of digital viewers used a smartphone, 24 percent a computer and 12 percent a tablet. The numbers are impressive, even overwhelming." The statistics "also clearly show which audience group mainly used mobile devices to follow the Olympics: millennials." Ayud: "Over 70 percent of Rio 2016 YouTube viewers were between 18 and 35 years old" (RAPID TV NEWS, 8/29).
