Event Notes: India Cricket Captain Applauds U.S.-Hosted Twenty20 Series

India cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni suggested that the U.S. "should host more one-day cricket." The short Twenty20 series between India and the West Indies "ended with play being called off." The West Indies won the series 1-0. Asked about cricket’s debut in the U.S., Dhoni said that "he would like to come back and play here more." Dhoni: “This is one place where we can come back and play lot of cricket, maybe a triangular or a four-nation ODI or T20 series" (PTI, 8/29).

The World Baseball Softball Confederation announced the participating nations and the new official emblem for the WBSC U23 Baseball World Cup 2016, which will be staged in Monterrey, Mexico, from Oct. 28-Nov. 6. The 12 nations that will compete in Monterrey represent six continents:

  • Africa: World No. 36 South Africa.
  • Americas: No. 7 Venezuela; No. 8 Mexico; No. 15 Panama; No. 18 Nicaragua and No. 27 Argentina.
  • Asia: No. 1 Japan; No. 3 Korea and No. 4 Chinese Taipei.
  • Europe: No. 14 Czech Republic and No. 33 Austria.
  • Oceania: No. 13 Australia (WBSC).
