Professional Cricketers' Association CEO Knows Players 'May Refuse To Join Test Tour'

The head of the players’ union has "echoed the call" of England Cricket Dir Andrew Strauss for all England players to "make themselves available for the tour to Bangladesh, but accepted that some may pull out because of safety fears," according to Andrew Davies of the LONDON TIMES. Professional Cricketers' Association CEO David Leatherdale was "part of the three-man team that assessed conditions in Dhaka and Chittagong last week." He "expressed full confidence" that the trip can go ahead. England one-day vice-captain Jos Buttler was "clearly nervous as he refused to commit to the tour." Leatherdale said, "The hope is that they will go en bloc. Whether they do that, or if there is the odd dissenting voice, is a good question." While players have not been given a deadline, Strauss "believes that gaps between the remaining games and practice sessions during the Pakistan one-day series will leave enough time for personal anxieties to be resolved" (LONDON TIMES, 8/29).
