Marketplace Roundup: Aggreko To Power Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games

U.K.-based commercial power generation and temperature control firm Aggreko has won the bid to provide temporary power for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games. It will also become a GC2018 official supporter through a sponsorship with Australia's largest event in more than a decade. The contract includes powering all 18 competition venues, the Int'l Broadcast Centre, the opening and closing ceremonies and other non-competition venues, such as the Commonwealth Games Village (GC2018). 

CHIEF SPEED OFFICIERDigicel Caribbean Ltd. announced Usain Bolt as its Chief Speed Officer. The "job for life" comes in tandem with the agreement of a lifetime partnership betwen Digicel and Bolt. In his role as Digicel CSO, Bolt will engage with Digicel customers in a number of ways from both commercial and community point of views (Digicel).

Thai seaweed snack-maker Tao Kae Noi has agreed to "a major sponsorship deal" with the FA of Thailand, ahead of the country’s 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign. The deal, worth $866,000, will see Tao Kae Noi "receive branding" during all of the Thailand national football team’s home games. The brand "will also execute off-the-pitch activations." The exact duration of the deal was not released, but the company will also pay an extra $30,000 bonus "for every clean sheet" the Thai team manages during the final round of qualification for the 2018 World Cup (SOCCEREX, 8/25).

Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin signed a new sponsorship deal with adhesive product producer Orafol Europe. As part of the two-year deal, Orafol will receive ad space on LED boards at Berlin's Olympic Stadium. The deal has an estimated value between €600,000-€1M ($677,000-$1.1M) (SPONSORs, 8/25).

Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) club Ratiopharm Ulm agreed to a new partnership with dairy company Ehrmann. As part of the three-year deal, Ehrmann's logo will be present on the right side of the players' shorts as well as on the baskets and LED boards (Ratiopharm Ulm).
