Hull City Sale To Chinese Partnership In 'Hands' Of Premier League

The takeover of Premier League side Hull City by a group of Chinese investors is "now in the hands of the Premier League with the sale of the club seemingly just a formality," according to James Smailes of the HULL DAILY MAIL. However, a deal which will see the Allam family "relinquish control of the club to brother and sister partnership Dai Yongge and Dai Xin Li, will almost certainly not be done before the closure of the transfer window" on Aug. 31. All aspects of the deal "have been agreed between the two parties, with due diligence thought to be close to completion, however a stumbling block to a quick transition of ownership appears to be the Premier League's fit-and-proper-persons test." There is no suggestion the siblings, who also own Chinese football club Beijing Rehne, "will not pass the test," but the "complex nature of their many business interests is holding up the process and the background checks could take some time to be completed." When approached about a possible time-frame for completion of the test, the Premier League said that it could not "comment on the matter." It emerged on Wednesday that "all debts inherited by the Allam family with regard to the Russell Bartlett and Paul Duffen era have now been settled, paving the way for a takeover with just the debt to the Allams left to settle upon completion of the sale of the club" (HULL DAILY MAIL, 8/25).
