Argentine Club Boca Juniors Weighing Stadium Rights Deal With Chinese Firm

Argentine first division side Boca Juniors' Bombonera stadium "could be named after a Chinese business," according to LOS ANDES. Club President Daniel Angelici confirmed that Boca Juniors "is considering a million-dollar offer to change the name." Though it was not revealed which brand "could have its name on the stadium," it has emerged that the naming rights partner would pay from $5M-$10M per year "and the contract would extend" to at least '27. Angelici: "I will meet with them to listen to the proposal and afterward I will analyze it with my colleagues from the board to see what is the best option" (LOS ANDES, 8/24). In Buenos Aires, Leandro Contento reported Angelici is "seriously considering the possibility of changing the name" of the Bombonera "in exchange for a sum that would exceed how much the club would earn from selling half its players." The $5M-$10M annual sum "would cover a third of the cost to build a new stadium for 75,000 spectators." Angelici, "however, will not have the last word." His tenure as president is scheduled to run until '19, and with the possible naming rights agreement continuing long after that point, "the topic will have to be addressed -- and eventually approved -- by the Assembly of Representatives" (OLÉ, 8/24).
