ManU Tops Premier League Twitter Followers Table As Clubs Make Huge Gains

What "a difference a year makes in the Premier League Twitter world," according to Paul Nicholson of INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL. Both Arsenal and Chelsea had more followers than ManU at the start of last year but now the Manchester club has "taken a substantial lead." ManU has 700,000 more followers than Arsenal and "more than 1.2 million more followers than Chelsea." ManU added more than 2.5 million followers over the year, "reaching a total of nearly 8.5 million -- an increase of 43%." Not surprisingly, Leicester City more than tripled its followers, "easily winning the prize for the largest percentage increase" -- 317%. In contrast, smaller clubs like Bournemouth and Watford have over 160% increases in followers, "but in real terms this amounted to a paltry increase of less than 150,000 followers for each team." Overall, Premier League clubs "put on a combined total of more than 11 million new followers" (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 8/17).
