Media Notes: Deutsche Telekom Gains 41,000 IPTV Customers, Launches Ice Hockey Channel

German telecom Deutsche Telekom "won 41,000 new customers for its domestic IPTV platform Entertain in Q2 2016, increasing the total subscriber number to 2.78 million." The growth "has been slower than in previous quarters." Telekom "hopes for a boost with its new ice hockey channel" on which the company will transmit all games of Germany’s domestic ice hockey league Deutsche Eishockey Liga via TV, PC, tablet and smartphone live from the '16-17 season. Telekom "acquired the TV rights from DEL in January 2016 for the next four seasons" (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 8/11).

ELEVEN EXPANSION: Eleven Sports Network further expanded its distribution in Singapore by signing an agreement with M1 to make its premium sports content, including live Premier League coverage, available to its subscribers. New and re-contracting M1 fiber customers will have access to the Eleven, Eleven Sports and Eleven Plus channels, including live coverage of every major domestic football league and cup competition in England, with the M1 Fibre Sports Bundle. Eleven Sports Network also signed an agreement with StarHub to offer its premium sports action, including live EPL football, to StarHub Go subscribers in Singapore. Launched ahead of the new season, StarHub will air three live and three delayed Premier League games per week, plus live and exclusive action from every other major domestic league and cup competition in England (Eleven Sports Network).

LIVE COVERAGE
: Betfred League Cup broadcaster BT Sport "decided to screen three live matches." The first will see Queen of the South "travel to Ibrox to take on Rangers on Sept. 20, followed by Celtic vs. Alloa the next night." On Sept. 22, BT Sport "will round off" its coverage by screening the Aberdeen vs. St. Johnstone clash (SCOTSMAN, 8/11).

GOING LONGLINE: ESPN Int'l has reached a 10-year multimedia agreement with MexTenis, a company owned by Grupo Pegaso, to distribute the Mexican Tennis Open tournaments in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean across TV and digital platforms. ESPN has been the exclusive home of MexTenis events in Mexico since '03. Under the terms of the agreement, ESPN in Mexico has exclusive rights to all 10 of the Abierto Mexicano Telcel presentado por HSBC in Acapulco and the Abierto Mifel presentado por Cinemex in Cabo San Lucas. In addition, the Abierto Mifel will air on ESPN in Central America and the Caribbean (ESPN Int'l).
