Media Notes: KPN Reaches New Distribution Deal With Fox Sports

Dutch telecom KPN has "settled its dispute with Fox Sports and agreed new carriage terms for the channels." KPN said that the new deal "means that customers who want to watch the Eredivisie football league on Fox Sports will be able to do so, under better conditions than its previous contract." KPN will continue the same distribution model, "offering Fox Sports as a premium channel." It was "under pressure from the broadcaster to add a channel to its basic package, but KPN said this would have led to an increase in prices for all customers" (TELECOM PAPER, 8/8).

NEW SHAREHOLDER: Just days after Vodafone Portugal announced it will take a stake in Sport TV, Portugal Telecom, through its pay-TV unit MEO, has "revealed plans to become a shareholder of the Portuguese premium sports network." According to Portugal Telecom, “an agreement of understanding has already been signed with the goal of joining the shareholding structure of Sport TV.” The operator added that the agreement is "subject to auditing and due diligence on the part of Sport TV" (ADVANCED TELEVISION, 8/5).

ROOFTOP DEALLagardère Sports announced the acquisition of experiential marketing and production agency Rooftop2 Productions. N.Y.-based Rooftop2 Productions, founded in '12, has built a reputation for creating and producing live marketing experiences that connect brands with consumers. The agency's services include live event development and production, sporting event design and management, experiential marketing and activation, media and content production and hospitality solutions (Lagardère Sports).

Austrian public broadcaster ORF "has secured multi-platform broadcast rights" to Euro 2020, as well as to Austrian national team Euro and World Cup qualifiers from '18-22. In addition, ORF got the broadcast rights for Austria's UEFA Nations League games and friendlies from '18-22 (DWDL, 8/8).

German free-to-air sports network Sport1 "will show the DEL2 Summer Game after getting the broadcast first for the outdoor hockey game." The game between Lions Frankfurt and Kassel Huskies will take place at Frankfurt's Commerzbank-Arena on Sept. 10 (DWDL, 8/8).

German public broadcaster ZDF "will move the UEFA Super Cup game to sister channel ZDFinfo on Tuesday." The channel "decided to go with Olympics coverage on the main channel" (DWDL, 8/8).

Fox Sports will broadcast the 2016 College Football Sydney Cup, "while ESPN will air the event" in the U.S. It will be "produced locally at ANZ Stadium before the feed heads to ESPN headquarters" and back to Foxtel (AUSTRALIAN NEWS TODAY, 8/8).
