Event Notes: Record 256 Entries Made For British Champions Day At Ascot

A record 256 entries "have been made for the British Champions Day at Ascot." The winners of 79 top-level Group One races, including 15 European Classics, "feature among contenders" for the fixture on Oct. 15. More than £4M ($5.3M) in prize money "will be on offer at the richest day in British horse racing." The previous highest number of entries for the six-race card "was 245 three years ago" (BBC, 8/3).

GRASSROOTS MOVEMENT: The NBA will host 40 of the top young basketball players from Argentina, Brazil, Canada and Mexico at the Americas Team Camp in Mexico City from Aug. 10-13 at the National Center for Talent Development and High Performance Sports (CNAR). The camp, which includes four days of basketball drills and competition directed by NBA players and coaches, will feature appearances by Mexico-born NBA veteran Jorge Gutierrez, the Denver Nuggets' Danilo Gallinari and the New Orleans Pelicans' Quincy Pondexter (NBA).

The Davis Cup semifinal between defending champion Great Britain and Argentina "will be played at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow." Britain beat the U.S. and Australia at the venue last year on its way "to winning the title for the first time in 79 years" (BBC, 8/3).

The 2016 Int'l Table Tennis Federation Women’s World Cup will be held in the U.S. for the first time ever, as the ITTF announced that USA Table Tennis has been selected to host the event from Oct. 7-9 in Philadelphia. The Liacouras Center on the campus of Temple University will host the World Cup (Team USA).

TNT’s Stan Van Gundy, ESPN’s Tim Reed, NBA Playoffs and NFL Draft

On this week’s pod, SBJ’s Austin Karp has two Big Get interviews. The first is with TNT’s Stan Van Gundy as he breaks down the NBA Playoffs from the booth.
