Football Notes: Welsh FA Rejects Hull City's Approach For Manager Chris Coleman

The FA of Wales rejected an approach from EPL side Hull City for Manager Chris Coleman. Hull is searching for a manager after Steve Bruce "resigned in frustration at a lack of signings." The FAW said in a statement, "The Football Association of Wales can confirm that it has received an official approach from Hull City FC for the services of manager Chris Coleman. Following discussions amongst leading figures within the association the approach has been rejected" (London GUARDIAN, 8/2).

NEW OFFICIALS: The English Football League and the Professional Game Match Officials Ltd. announced details of a new group of professional match officials who will officiate across the League Championship and support development of refereeing standards across the rest of the EFL. Known as Select Group 2, the introduction of 18 new contracted referees and 36 assistant referees has been made possible thanks to financial investment from all 24 Championship clubs. This investment follows the recent launch of a new joint initiative adopted across English football that aims to promote honesty, integrity and positive behavior across the game (EFL).

MAXIMUM SECURITY: Jakarta police will deploy 1,000 officers in anticipation of the arrival of a "large number of Persebaya Surabaya football supporters" in the city to participate in a protest rally scheduled to take place between Tuesday and Thursday. The supporters, known as "Bonek," are "reportedly planning to protest at several strategic points in the city." The supporters plan to pressure the Indonesian FA (PSSI) into readmitting football club Persebaya 1927, "which was expelled from the national football governing body over dual ownership and naming rights" (JAKARTA GLOBE, 8/2).
