Event Notes: AFL Side Geelong Likely To Be Denied Home Final

Australian Football League side Geelong's redevelopment of Simonds Stadium "will dent the club's hopes of hosting a home final there against Greater Western Sydney." The demolition of the Brownlow Stand "will also be a factor as it has reduced the ground’s capacity," with 24,331 fans attending Geelong's win over Western Bulldogs on Friday night. It means Simonds Stadium "may be too small for a Geelong-Greater Western Sydney final," depending on the AFL’s projected crowd figures for this year’s finals matches (HERALD SUN, 8/1).

The Int'l Kabaddi Federation (IKF) announced that India will host 12 teams in the upcoming Kabaddi World Cup, scheduled to take place in October. Apart from India, other countries "that will be vying for the title of Kabaddi World Cup" include the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, Iran, Poland, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Korea, Japan and Kenya. Kabaddi became a part of the Asian Games in '90 and India "has won all the gold medals since then" (LOCAL PRESS, 8/1).
